Fruit of the Spirit - The Love Podcast

admin on August 22nd, 2008

I am enamored at the gift of the Holy Spirit and the gift of Jesus. That God has given us new life and rewritten old laws is incredible. Today I’ll read from Matthew 12:1-21 from the New International Version, you can read along at BibleGateway.com if you’d like.

Matthew 12:18 from the NIV

Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.

That is my favorite verse. God gave this gift to Jesus and he in turn gave it to us. How incredible is that. He gave it to “the one I love.” Does that not speak volumes about love? We can empower good through loving others.

Is there someone you can love where you think love could make a real impact on another’s life?

Fruit of the Spirit - The Peace Podcast

2 Timothy 2 has some important messages about peace. It is a call to be mature, pursue things that are right with righteousness, faith, love and peace. More than just in God, we can apply peace to our daily lives. In 2 Timothy 2:22-23 says:

“Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.”

Fruit of the Spirit - The Joy Podcast

admin on May 28th, 2008

Today I recount a personal joy and from what I’m learning about joy it is definitely an experience that relates having a faithful relationship with Jesus and knowing that we are not alone. We are given joy and can find it when we need it.

…and if you’d like to read along I’m reading Psalm 30 from the New King James Version of the bible.

Have you found joy in similar circumstances, as a profound gift from Jesus that is inexplicable? Is it always there and we just need to accept it as the gift from the Holy Spirit or is it something we have to seek?

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

admin on May 13th, 2008

As a child of God, we know that we serve a purpose and have a role to play in furthering God’s Kingdom. Whether we are the hands, feet, eyes or ears of God, our role is important. As women, we also need to note that our role may not be as traditional as we may think. In Acts 2:1-21 when Peter stands and addresses the crowd after Pentecost he quotes from the book of Joel and addresses both men and women. We have all been called to serve.

Today’s podcast is Acts 2:1-21. I hope I am as proficient in the pronunciations as my pastor, if not, read along at BibleGateway.com.

Happy Mother’s Day

admin on May 8th, 2008

I remembered my mother’s copy of Poems of Childhood by Eugene Field. It was probably the most used in a set of classics that she kept. She would read them and then I would read them and I was so happy recently when she presented me with the copy of his verse.

A few years ago I was asked to present a Mother’s Day sermon for church and I of course spoke of my mom and life with my two sisters and sharing parenting with my mom as she now raises my two younger brothers.

During my sermon I of course included some verse by Eugene Field. Here are both of them: Good-Children Street and Pittypat and Tippytoe.

You can find (and download a pdf copy of) his poems at PoemHunter.com.

I hope the poetic works of Eugene Field bring you much enjoyment as a mother and child of God. Have a Happy Mother’s Day.

I will end this post with a podcast of the poem This Is Your Day by Louis Untermeyer.
