- A. Significant Women in the bible
You might ask yourself, why was the book of Ruth written and what is its significance.
The book of Ruth is about Redemption – an introduction to our Kinsman-Redeemer, JESUS, and from emptiness to fullness.
Ruth and Boaz are the grandparents to King David and are in the genealogy of Jesus. There are 5 women in the genealogy of Jesus mentioned in Matthew 1:2. YOU WILL NOTE THAT EACH WOMAN WAS REDEEMED.
TAMAR – had married 3 ofJudah’s sons who all died. Judah refused to give her his youngest son to bear her a son for inheritance. It was a sin not to give a son until a son was born. Tamar trapsJudah into impregnating her.
RAHAB – The harlot was redeemed through the spies that came to scope out the city. She is the mother of Boaz.
RUTH – A detested Moabite. She is the mother of Obed who is the father of Jesse who is the father of King David. Ruth then is the great grandmother of David.
BATHSHEBA – Although not mentioned by name but of the wife of Uriah. King David has an affair with and then has Uriah his soldier killed, marries Bathsheba, their first child dies and then they have Solomon.
MARY – The woman who gave birth to the child JESUS. She was theChosen one.
