We climb into our cars and head towards our destination. We know the way because someone went before us to point us in the right direction. They left signs to help remind us if we are on
the right road.
The Bible is our map towards our heavenly home.  And one day we will arrive there.  Jesus will be standing at the door with open arms to welcome us.
In the other Gospels the authors refer to the events as Miracles, but John refers to the miracles as “Signs”.
We are told in the book of John that it is written “…that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His Name.”John 20:31
In this chapter of John Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead.  This sign occurred approximately a month before His death.  It was His third raising of the dead.  Jairus’ daughter Mark 5:21-43, the widow of Nain’s son, Luke 7:11-17, and Lazarus climaxed by His own resurrection.  All of these events brought the Sanhedrins to the final decision that Jesus must die.
THE THREEFOLD SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SIGN
  1. The raising of Lazarus demonstrated the truth of Jesus’ claims as Lord and giver of life.  This final sign in itself constitutes the most powerful commentary and the greatest proof of any claim Jesus had made.
  2. The raising of Lazarus anticipated in measure the resurrection at the last day of
all who believe in Jesus.  It is “in measure’ Lazarus emerged in the same perishable body as before. The Christian, you and I, is to be raised with an
imperishable body that has been substantially changed by God. (See ICorinthians 6:14; 15:51-53; Philippians 3:20-21; IJohn 3:2-3.)
  3. The resurrection of Lazarus from death to life on this earth symbolizes Christian conversion.  The pattern of every true Christian life is that of being “made alive” from the state of being “dead in our sins, and “raised” to live a new quality of life on earth in preparation for the full redemption from all sin in heaven.
