Evan Almighty
Evan Almighty
Evan Almighty is the kind of movie you will want to watch as a whole family. This sequel to Bruce Almighty returns with Steve Carell playing Evan. But this time, Evan is in for bigger things than just TV anchor man, and I am not just talking about his recent election into Congress. This time Evan gets to take a turn in God’s Hot seat, and he is in for a wild ride. Morgan Freeman returns with another stunning performance as God, with is humorous, but wise, godly advice.
Directed by Tom Shadyac, who also directed the first movie, this one focuses on a modern day Noah story. Evan Baxter has just been elected Congressman with a campaign that promises he will “Change the world”. When his wife, played by Gilmore girls star Lauren Graham, challenges him to pray about his wish, he gets more than he bargained for. Now having to battle against animals and trying to save face as congressman, Evan Baxter must decide whether or not he really wants to step up and change the world.
This movie was funny and great for the whole family. With more focus on the biblical principles, the whole family can walk away from it having learned something. It teaches us that in order to Change the World, we have to be ready for the opportunities.
This one is much more appropriate for children than the original. There is only one uncomfortable scene, when Steve Carell as Evan walks out his front door and the suit he was wearing disappears. A strategically placed tree makes it completely covered; all you see is his head and feet. It is much cleaner than the original and appropriate for any age, rated only PG.
With this twist on a classic Bible story, there is a lesson we can all take home from Evan Almighty. So watch it as a family or share it as a friend. Either way, you are sure to enjoy this heart warming new favorite.
